Caring for trees people care about
It is our mission to provide Toronto and Durham Region with tree care of the highest quality. We employ outstanding, educated and thoroughly trained crews, using top notch equipment and tools. We carry full liability insurance and WSIB.
In addition to being an ISA certified arborist, John Van Ekeren is a Master Gardener. He is also past president of the Ontario Commercial Arborists Association and a member of Landscape Ontario and the Tree Care Industry Association.
We recently moved into a new home with some heavily damaged trees and some large dead trees. I was referred to John at able tree service and set up an appointment. He did a very thorough review of my property and provided me with an action plan to get things in good order while improving the look of our yard. John and his crew are first class professionals. From strategically planning to the minute details of clean up, they don't take any short cuts. After removing 9 trees and pruning several others, I assumed I would have a big clean up on my hands once they left. I was pleasantly surprised that my property is actually cleaner now than t was before. John also has first class equipment and from the moment they pulled into my driveway I knew I chose the right company. Thank you again to John and his fantastic crew, I would recommend him to family, friends and even my boss! --Ruel from Pickering via Home Stars More Reviews

1) Cables and brace rods: Cables and brace rods are supplemental structural supports intended to reduce the risk of failure of weak branches and multiple stems. Cables generally consist of extra high strength steel and are attached to bolts installed in the upper crown of a tree. They are intended to limit the movement of the supported branches so they are less likely to fail during storms. Braces are thread rod that are installed through unions of weak branches and multiple stems to provide more rigid support from torsional (twisting) forces that can occur in violent weather. 2) Hazard reduction pruning: in conjunction with the above, or sometimes on its own, hazard reduction pruning can lessen the load on limbs that may be prone to breakage. It can also lighten a tree in general (think spruce trees) and help prevent uprooting.
3) Deadwooding: removing dead wood. Pretty much self explanatory, but deadwood is prone to breaking even without strong winds and can pose a hazard to children, pets, homes and property.
4) Deep root liquid fertilizing: keep your trees and shrubs healthy from the roots on up. Healthy and well maintained trees are less likely to uproot or break in strong winds.
5) Hire an arborist to assess your trees on an annual basis. Safety first!
